Abstract
The study aimed to determine the factory that effect the performance of the students in periodic tests in the Division of Quezon City. Specifically, it sought to determine the following: (1) respondents' responses in factors that affects the achievement of junior high School students in the Periodic/ construction. (2) students competency level. (3) recommendations do teachers have to improve student's performance.
The research design and methods were population and simple size, sampling technique, description of respondents, research instrumentation, data gathering procedure and statistical treatment for data analysis.
The responses of respondents were categorized into several variables. In terms of test constructions, vocabulary used, sentence construction and level of difficulty. The most number answered technical which is 83 (53.9%), meaning the vocabulary is difficult for the students. In terms of competency level, most respondents answered instructional 93 (60.4%) comprehension level, in language proficiency, 69 (44.8%). In knowledge of vocabulary, 86 (55.8%) familiar only with the form but cannot use in sentence constructions, and for meaning and usage of the vocabulary, 99 (64.3%) familiar with meaning:
Based on the findings, the researcher recommended the following: (1) Writers must unlock the difficult words. Contextualize the vocabulary for all types of learners. (2) Teacher made test must be synchronized division-wide. It should be thoroughly checked by the master teachers and the validators. The Budget of works must be followed and properly monitored. (3) Intensify reading activities to expose students in vocabularies and contexts. (4) Update Instructional materials. Use LRMDS for other resources. (5) Use of technology to improve teaching strategies.
