Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of student-made big books on reading with comprehension in Filipino and English of Grade VI students of Placido Del Mundo Elementary School, Quezon City, School Year 2017-2018 . The researcher utilized Descriptive Method of Research. This Design involves the description , recording , analysis and interpretation of the conditions that now exist. Descriptive research describes and interprets what is necessary . it concerned with condition of relationship that exist, practice that prevail, beliefs processes that are going on, effects that are being felt or trends that are developing. The subjects of this study were Grade VI students of Placido Del Mundo Elementary School consisting of 68 male students 50 female students in English and 47 male students and 29 female students in Filipino. The data Collection technique in this study uses questionnaire checklist and observation. Qualitative data collection instruments use observation sheets and quantitatively use reading comprehension tests. Data analysis technique used is quantitative and qualitative data descriptive analysis. This study shows that the use of big book can improve reading comprehension or narrative text of Grade VI students of Placido Del Mundo Elementary School. The result of reading comprehension test after the implementation of learning comprehension by using big book continue to increase and show effectiveness in learning to improve reading comprehension ability in students. The increase is implied by the success indicators of the process and the product in each cycle.
