Abstract
This study entitled Effectiveness of Developed Modified Reading Materials in
Developing the Least Mastered Skills of Grade 7 Students of Justice Cecilia Muñoz
Palma High School during the Academic Year 2020 - 2021.
It sought to determine the least mastered reading skills of the Grade 7 students
which was the basis of developing and modifying reading materials intended for use as
pretest and posttest to see if there's a huge improvement on the students' skills after the
utilization of the developed modified reading materials. It also tested if there's a
significant difference between the pre-test and post-test of the control and experimental
group using an appropriate statistical instrument, the t-lest.
The experimental method with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design was used
as well as the descriptive-evaluative, and descriptive-qualitative methods of research to gather data. The subject of the study focused on the effectiveness of the modified
reading materials. It was tested on sixty (60) students, thirty students for the Control
group and the other thirty for the Experimental Group. They were selected using
random sampling techniques. The Experimental group was taught using modified reading materials and the control group were taught the usual way of teaching. Both groups took pretest and posttest to determine their competencies in grade ? English.
The research instruments were the diagnostic test, the pretest and posiest questionnaire and interview guide.

Based on the findings, the result of the diagnostic test on English 7 determined
the five least mastered competencies which are reading comprehension, sequencing of
events, noting details, drawing conclusions and vocabulary. Both the experimental
group and the control group showed an increase in the mean scores from pretest to
posttest. The control group has a 13.19% increase in the performance in English 7,
while the experimental group has a 77.86% increase. There is a significant increase in the mean scores from pretest to posttest of the experimental group. In terms of the
control group, there is no significant difference in the pretest and posttest mean scores.
There is a significant difference between the post-test mean scores of the control and
experimental group.
The students who were exposed to the developed modified reading materials scored better than the students who used the traditional material / teaching, thus it
could be said that the developed modified reading materials has greatly helped and
highly recommended to enhance the competencies of students in English 7.
