Abstract
Solving word problems in Mathematics is an exciting and engaging skill to learn. K-12 Curriculum of Department of Education (DepEd) aims to holistically develop 21st century skills among learners and one of these skills is critical thinking and problem solving. This king of skill links the lesson to real life situations which makes the students realize the importance of learning mathematics and be ready in the field.
From the result of the Division Assessment Package 2017-2018 particularly in Grade 9 level, problem solving competencies were included in the least mastered skills with 21.52% for Problem Solving on Radicals, 22.78% Problem Solving on Variation, 23.28% Problem solving in Quadratic Functions. The main purpose of the study is to increase reading and comprehension skills and enhance learners' feelings and experiences towards Math problem solving that leads to improve learners' problem solving skills.
The researchers sought answers to the following research questions:
1. What is the attitude of the students toward word problem solving prior to intervention?
2. What is the effect of WORDSS Program in the word problem solving skills of the students?
Purposive sampling was used and the class with the lowest mean were the participants of the study. The necessity to increase the mean of the class is the purpose of choosing the participants. The researcher believed that these students need more attention and intervention. Each student was given intervention materials on WORDSS which is used to enhanced reading and comprehension skills on the first part of the material. After which, learners' exposure
