Abstract
One of the most important aspects of solving problems in Mathematics is the analytical
thinking
skills of the learners which inchdes analysis , interpretation, inference and generic
concept . The rampant issue nowadays in our school and other educational institutions is the
.
learners are
struggling to solve basic mathematical operation and solving word problem . The
(PSM) Problem Solving Maps composed of three tools, is the newest remediation prescribed by
the Department of Education to help learners get a deeper and quicker understanding of math
concepts for topics which are usually challenging thru visual thinking. This action research aimed
to determine the eficacy of PSM tools in the least mastered competencies in second quarter lesson
such as ratio percentage and MDAS operations of selected Grade 6 learners of Maligaya
Elementary School. The students were selected using simple random sampling technique
(Fishbowl Method) in this sampling technique , twenty students were randomly drawn. In order to
collect data, online orientation was conducted, parents' consent were sent „learners' Pre-Test and
Post Test were given based on least mastered skills prepared by the teacher researcher. Before
post test an intervention was given using PSM tools such as Example Conclusion Maps (ECM)
Multi -Rule Map (MRM) and Math Breaker Map MBM) thru online training conducted every
Friday. As the result of the efficacy using Problem Solving Maps tools , It is found out that 17 out
of 20 pupils or 85% of the pupils have showed improvement in performing basic operation and
solving word problem and only 3 learners or 15% of the pupils needs more time to master the
PSM intervention program. The study reveals that PSM can significantly increase the learners
performance in Mathematical operation and in solving word problenm . It is recommended that
parallel studies be conducted in regular classroom teaching routines
