Abstract
With the present situation, education is very much affected since learners cannot
Physically go to school and do the usual norms, especially in reading. Questions like: How Can studying through reading be sustained in remote leaning? Would parents somehow step up by providing reading materials and fill in the shoes of teachers for their reading?" come to mind as the proponent started this innovation.
Although education still goes on through different learning modalities, essential activities like reading a story or selection during English classes would surely be minimized and limited due to time constraints since the Department of Education suggested a limited screen time for synchronous classes. Reading has been a perennial problem being addressed in the School Improvement Plan, so in this time of pandemic, learners must have a venue where they can read at their own pace and at their own time. A site where they are free to choose
any reading material which interests them.
This is the basic reason why the proponent thought of this very interesting idea on how learners can continue in enjoy and explore their love for reading by basking on the ambiance
You sent of a physical library with just a few clicks, Now that almost everything is dine online. not set up a reading hub which is readily accessible to learners?
why
The Kaligayahan Elementary School (KES) Online Reading lab is a simple online reading facility that contains collection of ebooks (downloaded online) and teacher made video lessons(original) that can be accessed by learners through their G-suite acounts At the start, the facility is set up or established by the proponent thru Google Sites which is similar to a website. By downloading stories/books that are downloadable for free from certain websites, the proponent thought of presenting them in the site in an interesting way like a library.
Learners can access the hub by clicking the link using their G-Suite account. Once inside the Home page, they can click the buttons for Membership, Books, Videos or About Us, If they wish to be a member of the Hub, they can click the Membership and answer the Google Form. If they become members, they will be notified thru email if there are new uploaded books in the hub. They can also click the Books button. Once there, they can choose from the category of books according to age groups: for 3-7 years old, for 8-10 years old, and for 11-12 years old.
Originally, it was only intended for grade 6 learners since the proponent is a grade 6
English teacher. She had the initial launch last October 2020, but because the proponent somehow sees the great need of the whole school for this she opted to open it to every KESian (KES learner). The project is purely done online and at home. The cos of internet.
