Abstract
This study was focused on the computer competencies of teachers in Old Balara Elementary School. This study includes the profile of the teachers in terms of age, gender, educational attainment, length of service and position and level of computer competencies in terms of knowledge and skills. A hypothesis was tested if there exist a significant difference when respondents were grouped according to their profile variables.
Fifty-two teachers were the respondents of the study. The study made use of the descriptive research design using online survey questionnaire in gathering data. The data were analyzed with the use of frequency counts, percentage distribution, mean, ANOVA and T-test.
The study revealed that majority of the respondents were middle aged group, female dominated, most hold a Bachelors' Degree, majority were Teacher 1 and no longer new to the service. It was found out that teachers were competent in terms of knowledge and skills except on spreadsheet. The results of ANOVA and T-test revealed that there exist a significant difference when respondents were group according to their age.
Based on the findings, the researcher hereby proposed Microsoft Excel Training Program to increase the level of computer competencies of teachers.
Furthermore, the researcher recommends the following: Teachers of older age should undergo hands on training on computer knowledge and skills to increase their level of computer competencies as well as younger teachers; they should continue upgrading themselves to cope with the new trends of education.; the Schools Division Office in partnership with the Local Government Unit should provide free laptops to all teachers, to practice and explore themselves on the use of technology.
