Abstract
This study was focused on the Disaster Management at Old Balara. It sought to determine the disaster preparedness of the residents whether man-made or natural calamities.
The researcher took sixty-one pupils and sixty-four teachers as respondents of the study. The study made use of the descriptive research design using online survey questionnaire in gathering data. The data were analyzed with the use of frequency counts and percentage distribution.
The primary instrument used by the researcher in gathering data was locally constructed questionnaire. It was the main tool in gathering data and in answering specific problems of the study.
The locally constructed questionnaire have two parts; the first part of it is basically gathering the profile of the respondents. The second part is a survey and inventory of the experiences regarding natural and man-made calamities.
From the forgoing findings, it has been concluded that air pollution is a severe problem experienced by the residents and teachers at Old Balara. Likewise, there is a need to increase for the budget for local and national disaster coordinating council in order to provide necessary facilities to be used for emergency response.
The study recommends that information campaign on natural and man-made hazard awareness and disaster preparedness must be strengthened by the concerned agencies to make every individual conscious regarding the danger brought by different disasters.
Furthermore, necessary trainings must be provided for the respondents since based on the findings of the study, most of them lack the capacity to respond on natural disasters due to lack of trainings. Handouts for disaster preparedness is also of great help for the residents of Old Balara to make the prepared in any kind of disasters.
School administrators, teachers, parents, Barangay Officials, and the learners may utilize the findings of the study towards a safer and quality life.
