Abstract
The teaching and learning process in science required various teaching strategies and learning styles to ensure a successful teaching and learning experience process in the Philippines in general. The research study was conducted to determine the relationship between the learning styles and teaching strategies to the academic performance in the science of grade 9 students. Respondents were chosen randomly from three different sections of grade 9. The Sampling Technique was used to make possible the study of a large heterogenous population of Grade 9 students. The Descriptive Research Method was used to describe, record, analyze and interpret the data. Survey Questionnaires were used to investigate and correlate the result between the learning styles and teaching strategies of both variables. More so, the researcher used a Random Sampling Technique was utilized in this study to give every student a chance to be selected as a respondent, the students that were chosen were considered as a respondents corresponding to the number needed in the study. This was used to made possible the study of the Large Heterogenous population of Grade 9 students specifically.
Based on the result, the following conclusions were drawn by the researchers through the statistical data provided. The study presented a significant relationship between learning styles and teaching strategies to academic performance in science. Most of the learning style of the student was Visual where students can utilize graphs, charts, maps, diagrams, and other forms of visual stimulation to effectively interpret information, whereas, in the teaching strategy most of the teachers used the Project-Based Learning method approach that involved students working together on activities or learning tasks in a small group enough to ensure that everyone learned. The following recommendations were made for the researchers to conduct a similar research study that can enhance teaching strategies in teaching science to all diverse learners with various learning styles.
