SCHOOL-BASED FEEDING PROGRAM AND ITS EFFECT ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF UNDERNOURISHED LEARNERS

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effects of the School-based Feeding Program to the elementary pupils of Villa Verde Elementary School during the Academic Year 2020-2021. Based from the school's Nutritional Baseline Report SY 2019-2020, an enormous 242 students out of 1,917 enrolled learners from Grade One to Grade Six were identified as severely wasted and wasted learners which comprised 12.62 percent of the total population. In line with this awakening statistical data on undernourished learners and the current implementation of the school-based Feeding Program, the researchers, wants to know the effects of the SBFP on the academic performance of the learners and identify areas of improvement in its implementation thus, the study "Effect of School-Based Program on the Academic Performance of Undernourished Learners ", was undertaken.
The study utilized the descriptive method of research using a questionnaire as the instrument to gather the needed information. The respondents of this study were the thirty-five (35) classroom advisers out of forty (40) teachers with identify undernourished pupils based on their nutritional status with reference to the BMI during the Academic Year 2019-2020 at villa Verde Elementary School, Quezon City. Based from the results of the study guided by the statement of the problem the following conclusions were drawn: The School-based Feeding Program of Villa Verde Elementary School has compiled with the DepEd Order 39 Series of 2017. The SBFP Contributed to an increased academic performance of the pupils after their grades.
