Abstract
Learning materials play a very significant role in increasing pupils' motivation
and academic performance towards achieving quality education. These learning materials, which may be printed, visual or audiovisual provide an opportunity to them to explore the knowledge independently and repeatedly until such time that lessons were fully understood. In this new normal in education wherein leaming is done at home brought about by the covid-19 pandemic, most educators are having difficulty coping up with problems, issues and challenges on how learning can be delivered effectively. Activity worksheets are indeed an important tool and one best intervention to impart knowledge and skills to learners. It will also serve as the primary basis of assessing the academic performance of pupils in the modular distance learning modality. Purposive sampling, also known as selective or convenient sampling was used in this research. Transformative design, a kind of Mixed method was also used in this study, wherein records on the written works, performance-based outputs and the final grades in Science on the first semester were the bases. Thematic analysis for the interview was used to describe the basic features of the collected data. It is the term given to the analysis of data that helps describe, show or summarizes collected data in a meaningful way. Based on the findings of the study, it is evident that the use of SAW has of great importance to the achievement of better academic performance in Science for the first semester of selected grade 3 pupils in our school in the distance learning delivery modality.
