Teacher's financial management, work performance and commitment: basis for a proposed school-based financial literacy program

Abstract
The study aimed to determine the level of teachers' financial management correlated to teaching performance and commitment which served as the basis for a school-based financial literacy program. It was conducted in selected secondary schools' division in the National Capital Region during the school year 2020-2021. Purposive sampling technique were used as well weighted mean, percentage, T-test, Chi-square, and Pearson's -r to compute the statistical results. There were two groups of respondents who participated in the study. The teachers and school heads. It consisted of 265 teachers and 50 school heads in the different secondary schools across 3 schools' division in National Capital Region: Division of Caloocan, Quezon City, and Valenzuela.
The study concludes that the respondent's profile as to age was majority of 25-34 years old, female, teacher I-III and Principal I-II, 6-10 years in service married, spouse is government employee and has 2-4 children.
The findings revealed that the teachers and school heads have high level of financial management. The findings showed that there is a significant difference in the assessment of the two groups of respondents in the level of debt, investing , and saving, risk assessment and insurance and pre-retirement planning but there is no significant difference in planning for purchase. The study also found out that there is significant relationship between the level of financial management and profile as to age, plantilla position, length of service, marital status, spouse employment and number of children but no significant relationship when it comes to gender.
The study further revealed that performance of teachers a very satisfactory. Furthermore, it also revealed that there is significant relationship between teachers' financial management and performance. In addition, findings show that teacher's level of commitment found to be very highly committed. It implies that the teacher's level of commitment found to be very highly committed. It implies that the teacher's passion and enthusiasm for teaching are very evident. Lastly, the study recommend that the school may give affirmation, award and recognition to teachers who shown commitment to their job.
Based on the findings of the study, the research proposed a school based financial literacy program.
