Abstract
Deped Order No. 012, s. 2020. provides the Adoption of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE - LCP) that allows schools to implement interventions for bridging learning gaps and to give time to teachers for the different learning delivery modalities during the time of COVID-19. The shift from Face to Face classes to learning modalities prompted this study to compare student academic performance in science 8 for online and printed modalities. A total of 274 students is used as a sample population for online and printed modalities. The study also determined if gender could spell a significant difference in student performance. The final grades in science 8 were the basis for my academic performance. Results show that the academic performance online was 3% higher than the printed modality. The mean for the online modality is 83% , with SD; of 7.42 which is higher than the printed modality having mean of 80 with an SD; of 4.54. As to whether this difference is significant , results show that Z-test for means was 3.55 with an equivalent p-value of 0.000186. The p-value (0.000186) is less than the critical value of 0.05. Thus, the result is statistically significant which means that academic performance is affected by online and printed modalities. There was a significant difference in terms of gender since the Chi-square test (x2) 25.865 was greater than the critical value of 7.81, which means the Gender (male/female) is related to online and printed modality.
