Abstract
The use of computer has become indispensable in the teaching process. But not all teachers are computer literate. There are those who struggle using them , especially older ones. Left on their own, these teachers will not only feel inferior compared to their colleagues who are computer literate, but works which require them to use computer will suffer and their work performance will be affected. As a result, they might just resort to early retirement to avoid this situations . In this study, ten teachers of Sto. Cristo Elementary School with ages between 45 to 61 are the respondents. All teachers have undergone previous trainings in ICT before but failed to acquire or learn the skills. Whether the teachers' advancing age or the manner these trainings have been conducted has anything to do with their inability to learn computer skills was the researchers' focus. One-on-one peer mentoring was used in the hope that a different approach in training may be more effective than the traditional classroom set-up. Kram and Isabella (1985) in their study suggest that peer mentoring can offer greater opportunity for empathy, and a sense of equity and expertise. Results of this study showed that respondents learn more in one-on-one set up where each mentor is focused only with her specific trainee/mentee and not with the whole class. Also the factor of embarrassment towards their mentor when they could not easily understand the lesson is ruled out owing to the fact that they are familiar with their mentors who are more sympathetic towards their situation.
