Abstract
The 21st century students are changing drastically their study habit due to technological devices and worse those devices could also affect their focus to improve study habits which is considered to be the concern on improving and maintaining their interest particularly in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP). As observed by the researcher of this study, grade 7 students are not interested to the said subject and shows low performance in class participation. Some of them even verbally expressed that they are not motivated. Some did not understand clearly the lesson in conventional way specifically students who have difficulty in reading and comprehension. In this matter, researchers believe that with the use of audio-visual aids in different way could help students to improve their interest in learning in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP). Observation method and survey questionnaire were used to assess Guided Audio Reading Device (GARD) to 104 Grade 7 students of San Bartolome High School. The results indicated that Guided Audio Reading Device(GARD) improves the interest in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao subject. Where, 54.8% of respondents were not aware what GARD is. Seventy-eight and eight percent (78.8%) experienced that their ESP teachers use recorded voice to present important parts of the lesson. While 53.8% answered that they understood the lessons easily through GARD. Moreover, 73.1% said that they listen well with GARD and lastly 60.6% proved that they become more interested in ESP subject when GARD was used by their EsP teacher. Through GARD respondents observed that they intend to listen, understand the lessons, pay attention, pass quizzes, can answer recitation, and behaves well in classroom. In addition to this, respondents also claimed that GARD can help their teachers as well to save vocal efforts and time. It also helps to improve their reading and comprehension skills.
