Abstract
This experimental research was conducted to examine the effectiveness of mother-tongue in teaching Science IV in Placido Del Mundo Elementary School, District VI of the Division of Quezon City. The chosen respondents of this study were the learners from section Manasahan and section Marunong, whose medium of instructions used were English and Mother Tongue in Science. There were thirty (30) learners from section Maaasahan and thirty learners from section Marunong, for a total of sixty (60) learners.
The researcher made use of teacher-made questionnaires. The findings of this study revealed how the Grade IV pupils in the public elementary school in Placido del Mundo have been "above average" in their level of performance in Science when the mother tongue is used as the medium of instruction, particularly in areas which targeted vocabulary and concept development, grammar analysis, and reading comprehension. Moreover, when the researcher made use of Filipino as instructional base instruction, the pupils were actively engaged in their activities and focused on their work. Consequently, the provision of evaluation of instruments was seen as a serious problem encountered by Grade IV teachers with the implementation of the mother tongue as an instructional basis and learning subject.
The result shown that the use of the mother tongue in teaching Science had improved the performance level of the pupils. With these results collected, the researcher recommended that, if pupils are not good in English or still struggling in English, the teacher shall use the Tagalog or the Mother Tongue to be easily understood by the Grade Four pupils.

The teacher should ask the pupils or even their parents on what language they speak at home and ask the cooperation of the parents in translating lessons in Filipino for them to easily comprehend and made use of the learning materials designed in the child's mother tongue.
The researcher also suggests that lessons taught in English be translated into their mother tongue. Additionally, there should be strong support or cooperation to make sure that pupils are knowledgeable about their language, Filipino as their mother tongue.
