Abstract
Class participation is one of the most important aspects of pupils learning. it
helps pupils learn to express their ideas and obtain information to enhance their own
understanding. in the researcher's Science class, it has been observed that some of the
pupils are inactive during classroom activities. They do not participate in classroom
discussion and do not share in the collaborative learning activities. To address these
problems, the researcher come up with this action research. Its main purpose is to
know how effective is the Scientific Observations of the Class Operatives (SOCO)
Technique in improving pupils' participation in Science class. To conduct this study,
descriptive research design using rubrics/ checklist was employed. The quantitative
data are collected from the participants, their peers and the teacher- researcher. The
data was analyzed by using percentage and mean. The findings of the study revealed
that pupils participation in Science Class has improved with the use of Scientific
Observations of the Class Operatives (SOCO) Technique. Based on teacher's
observation, most of the pupils enjoy the different learning activities using the SOCO
Technique, thus sustain pupils interest. It is therefore recommended that this
Scientific Observations of the Class Operatives (SOCO) Technique be disseminated in
the SLAC sessions or any teachers' development program.
