Abstract
there were so many theoretical and practical research studies carried out to address the concerns and issues on students at-risk of dropping out. Moreover, interventions done in these studies were implemented to help the students at risk to finish particular grade level and be promoted to the next level. However, it is case to case scenario that there were initiatives shown good results and students' situations are in different context. The purpose of this study is to contribute another approach in reducing school's SARDO particularly in Grade 8 level by helping the students to acquire skills to cope up with their academic deficiencies as well as to boost their interest through extra curricular activities integrated with the concepts from the learning competencies of the subject areas. This study aimed to explore the establishment of boot camp as an intervention program to bring back students at-risk in school and continue their studies. Data from surveys , interviews , focus group discussion, and school records were used to describe and to discuss the effectiveness of interventions generated. The emergent reasons why students at-risk have irregular attendance include : (1) lack of interest and (2) lack of self-confidence. Parents have interest in livelihood workshops and responsible parenting seminar. Parents also like to be involved in volunteering in the classroom as part of their involvement with their Childs educational experience. The interest of students vary in each other. The participants in this study stated the strengths, weaknesses , challenges and impact of the intervention program in details. This intervention program could be implemented and conducted in other grade levels particularly in Grade 7 to provide assistance to students at-risk as early as possible. On the basis of the findings of this study, this study encourages school personnel to use interventions available in other grade levels to prevent drop outs in a cost-effective manner.
